Iranian people have started the 10-Day Dawn celebrations to mark the 40th anniversary of the country’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, which overthrew the monarchy of the US-backed Pahlavi regime in Iran.

Mehdi Qarasheikhlu, head of the Dar-ol-Quran Kareem Organization, said that the visit will come on Wednesday, January 30, two days before the start of the celebrations. It will also include a Quran recitation session and inauguration of the mausoleum’s Quran center, Qarasheikhlu went on to say.

16 Azar (7 December) has become the official Student Day in Iran after the 1979 Revolution. On that day, December 7, 1953 (16 Azar 1332 in the Iranian calendar) three students of the University of Tehran were murdered by Iranian police in the Pahlavi era. Every year there are local demonstrations at many universities organized by students.
